Garden Of The Gods
Colorado Springs is home to the Garden of the Gods, a 1,300 acre, city owned, free admission park made up of spectacular red sandstone formations. These red rocks were formed 300 million years ago and have endured the test of time for us to hike around or picnic upon. Technical climbing gear is required for rock climbing. Flora and Fauna reflect the rich diversity of the crossroads where the Great Plains of Colorado meet the Rocky Mountains. One and two hour horseback trail rides are available at the Academy Riding Stables. The Garden of the Gods Visitor’s Center is a museum of natural history. Be sure to see the dynamic 12 minute multimedia show “How Did These Red Rocks Get There?” $2 donation suggested. Also, pick up a map for a self-guided driving tour, or get on the narrated van tour of the park. Nature trails for walking are scattered throughout the park.
